Prominent Pakistani television anchorperson Ayesha Jahanzeb has accused her husband of domestic violence, leading to his arrest and subsequent court appearance.

In her statement to the police, Jahanzeb alleged that her husband, Haris, had physically assaulted her on multiple occasions this year, claiming it happened three to four times.

The anchor revealed that Haris had secretly married another woman, which fueled his violent behavior towards her.

Jahanzeb stated that she had tried to salvage her marriage but the abuse continued, resulting in severe injuries. She has now decided to pursue legal action against her husband.

Based on Jahanzeb’s complaint, the police registered a case at the Sarwar Road police station and subsequently arrested Haris.

He was then presented before a judicial magistrate, who granted the police a two-day physical remand of the accused.

This is Jahanzeb’s second marriage. During a previous show, Jahanzeb had disclosed that her mother had pressured her into remarrying after she was diagnosed with cancer.

While Jahanzeb initially resisted, she eventually succumbed to her mother’s wishes.

The TV host had also revealed that Haris was her only male friend before they married.

CM Maryam takes notice of alleged domestic violence case involving anchor Ayesha Jahanzeb

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday took notice of an alleged domestic violence case involving anchorperson Ayesha Jahanzeb and her husband.

A first information report (FIR), a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, of the incident was filed at Lahore’s Sarwar Road police station on Monday on the complaint of Ayesha Chaudhry under Pakistan Penal Code Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and Section 506-B (criminal intimidation).

The FIR said Jahanzeb’s husband Haris Ali habitually tortured her and was abusive since the beginning of their marriage, adding that he had threatened to kill her last month while torturing her.

It said he came home on Monday, beat her up, bruised her and dragged her outside to their house’s gate. The FIR added that he pointed a gun to her head and threatened to kill her upon which their two daughters attempted to rescue the anchor.

The FIR said he was calmed down by her driver and electrician and later fled while waving his gun as commotion began to grow. The FIR said he had committed strong injustice against the anchorperson and requested that legal proceedings be initiated against him.

Today, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said CM Maryam summoned a report on the incident from the inspector general of police and ordered that the best medical treatment facilities be provided to Jahanzeb.

“Women are my red line, any sort of torture committed on the domestic or working women will not be tolerated,” the chief minister said.
